When we’re emotionally activated, the feeling is real.
But the interpretation is not automatically true.
That distinction is one of the foundations of emotional intelligence.
A feeling can arise in the body — fear, anger, grief, contraction, pressure — and then the mind rushes in to explain it.
I feel afraid, therefore something bad is going to happen.
I feel rejected, therefore they don’t value me.
I feel anxious, therefore my intuition is warning me.
The problem is not the feeling.
The problem begins when the mind turns the feeling into a story — and then turns the story into certainty.
The lower pathway often looks like:
Feeling → Reaction → Story → Certainty
A more conscious pathway looks like:
Feeling → Awareness → Inquiry → Understanding
The emotion is still there.
Nothing is bypassed.
But instead of immediately reacting, you stay present long enough to ask:
